Microsoft Corporation Looking To Nokia Name With Lumia 435

Once a giant, Nokia is now a mere shadow of what it was. It has been acquired by Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) but so far the moves still seems to be a bad investment and Nokia has failed to show a profit.

Nokia released financial results for the third quarter of its fiscal year 2014 (3QFY14) and it is still in a loss. There is however a silver lining, as sales of handset units have increased quarter-over-quarter indicating a rise in demand.

Grabbing on the increased demand, Microsoft is all set to launch the low-budget Nokia 435 smartphone, primarily catering to low income and developing economies. This strategy will be along the lines of previous low cost Nokia phones such as Nokia X, and the Nokia Asha that made quite an impact. The advantage here is that the set will be running Windows Phone 8.1. It is estimated this smartphone will cost less than $100.

The Nokia 435 will join the Lumia brand and will be equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 200 chipset with a 4- inch WVGA display packing in 235ppi. The device will also feature a 5MP rear camera. It is expected that the phone will make a splash in the Indian mobile market.Microsoft needs to act fast on reviving Nokia’s fortune because as of now, the division is a huge drain on the software giant’s revenue.
